Sonny Griffin
Leslie “Sonny” Griffin Jr., 67, of 1334 Alamac Road, died Dec. 18, 2006, at home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Point Baptist Church, the Revs. William Marshall Griffin and Chris Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Griffin was born in Robeson County on Jan. 23, 1939. He was a lifelong member of New Point Baptist Church. He was one of the original founders of Pine Terrace Volunteer Fire Department, of which he gladly served as president for 15-plus years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lessie Griffin and Myrtle Oxendine Griffin; and his oldest sister, Maudie Elizabeth Griffin Hall.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Lois Dean Locklear Griffin of the home; a daughter, Lisa Ann Griffin and her husband, Manu L. Sualevai of Kinston; a son, Jeff Junior Griffin and his wife, Sheryl C. Griffin, of Lumberton; eight grandchildren, Heather Lois, Amy Lynn, Jeff Fatu, Andrew Liolio, Cheyenne Alofatunoa, Susana Myrtle, Filip Jeremiah and Zachary Cole; a great-grandchild, Tokobe Hunt; a special daughter-in-law, Teresa Lynn Griffin; an aunt, Carmable Revels; two sisters, Mary Grace Britt and her husband, William Britt, and Retha Mae Stewart and her husband, James Stewart, all of Lumberton; four brothers, William Marshall Griffin and his wife, Liz, James Ray Griffin and his wife, Winnie, Bobby Griffin and his wife, Christine, and Early Ray Griffin and his wife, Carolyn, all of Lumberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
